The name KunstVlaai comes from the original name Niet de KunstRAI (by Jos Houweling). KunstRAI is an annual art fair in Amsterdam. We were not allowed to use the name RAI. So it was called 'KunstVlaai'. After designing various identities and campaigns for Kunstvlaai, I created a new logo in 2016. The idea is that no one (foreigner) understands you when you mention the word 'Kunstvlaai'. I thought, let's leave out the vowels, that's what foreign people hear anyway: K_nstvl___.
